Queen of Babble Gets Hitched by Meg Cabot

The final novel of the Queen of Babble series picks up right after the second one left off. Lizzie's boyfriend, Luke, has just proposed after flying back from France on New Years. And Lizzie says yes...even though one of her best friends, Chaz, warns Lizzie that Luke will never be able to hitch his wagon onto her star. Because Luke thinks that he's the star.Lizzie ignores Chaz even though he's the one that makes her heart flip...

On another side of things, Lizzie's hit the jackpot with the wedding gown restoring business thanks to Vogue's editor calling Lizzie's restoration of an ancestral gown "cunning." Thanks to the comment, Chez Henri's phones are running off the hook. Literally. And since Monsieur Henri has sufferred a heart attack...running the business is all up to Lizzie and new workers that Madame Henri finally consented to hire.

Lizzie needs all the help that she can get thanks to her latest famous and wealthy customer. Ava Geck, heiress to the store Geck's, is notorious for not wearing underwear (and having pictures of said lack of underwear everywhere) and has a gum-chewing habit. She wants Lizzie to make her wedding gown for her upcoming nupitals with a Greek prince.

Poor Lizzie. Can she neogotiate the rocky waves of her romantic life, deal with a shocking tragedy and keep her big mouth shut...for once?

Read Meg Cabot's Queen of Babble Gets Hitched to find out!

Major Spoilers Below

Since reading the second book, I was firmly on the side of Team Chaz. I mean, really. Everyone could tell that Luke wasn't Prince Charming and Chaz was the perfect guy all along.

Except for Lizzie.

Which was the only slightly annoying part of this book.

I mean, after all those heart flips when seeing Chaz, her jealousy when seeing him with other woman...and not to mention how he remembered her love for Diet Coke and white wine with ice on the side...

How could Lizzie not figure it out? I kind of wanted to thwack her on the head..

Of course when they finally DID get together (after all of that trouble) it made it so much more satisfying.

Onwards.

I loved the cast in this novel. Tiffany from book two (Lizzie's fellow receptionist at the law office Lizzie worked at) becomes a central secondary character as she becomes one of Lizzie's receptionists. While reading the novel, I often found her comments to be laugh-out-loud worthy. Along with Tiffany, Monique (another new receptionist that Tiffany met at..Narcotics Anonymous) as well as Ava Geck and the infamous Gran provide Queen of Babble with lots of comic relief!

In anycase, if you've read the first two Queen of Babble's be sure to check this one out!

INTERVIEW WITH J . Scott Savage: author of Farworld: Waterkeep

Hey guys! We recently got the chance to ask J. Scott Savage.

We hope you enjoy the interview.

An Interview with J. Scott Savage
1) What inspired you to write this book?
I’m not sure there is any one inspiration. More like lots of little pieces coming together. I’ve always liked that idea that magic is all around us, but we just don’t know it. Everybody has to find their own magic.
2) In most books there is a variety of secondary characters. In Water Keep who was your favorite secondary character (since author's usually have trouble naming a favorite main character)...)

True. Picking your favorite character is like trying to pick your favorite child. I really like Riph Raph. He is like that annoying younger brother who bugs the heck out of you but also sticks up for you against anything or anyone.

3) In most adventure books there usually is a hero. However in Water Keep, one of the heros is unique in that he has an handicap but yet is able to partake in the quest. Why did you make that choice and do you have a message behind that choice?

Both of the heroes have disabilities. Marcus’s is more obvious because it is physical and so something we can see. But consider this. In Kyja’s world there is very little need for advanced technology because magic takes its place. Why invent a vacuum when you can clean with magic? Then consider that for Kyja, not having magic is like not being able to use any tool on Earth from a screwdriver to a car. How hard would that be? The reason both of my characters have this disabilities is because I wanted a story where the hero doesn’t suddenly discover she is the real queen or has the strongest magic. This is a story about a boy and girl who continue to struggle even after they discover who they are. Their road is not easy.

4) As a brand -new author, tell us how it felt to learn that your book was being published?
Well technically I am not a brand new author. But this is my first young adult, first fantasy, and first nationally published novel, so in many ways it is like being a new author. The way I found out was different too. I was invited to lunch by the publisher without knowing if they were going to take my book or not. As we ate we discussed what they liked, what they’d like to see changed, book tour, etc. Finally I just blurted out, “So are you going to publish this?” They just assumed I knew the answer was yes, and we all had a good laugh. It was such a relief. I couldn’t wait to tell my wife the good news.

5) Were any of your characters specifically based on people you know?

Not specifically. I find that if you base a character on someone you know, you lose the freedom to let the character become who they need to.

6) What would you do if you found out you were a chosen one?

I’d probably laugh at first. I wouldn’t believe it. Then I’d be scared out of my wits to know that everyone was depending on me. Then, I’d probably accept it and try to do my best.

7) What type of music did you listen to while writing this book? (If any at all..)
The only music I can listen to when writing is sound tracks. Nothing with words. I get too distracted. But I love a really great instrumental. It’s inspiring. I also like tracks of nature sounds.

8) Can you tell us a bit about what will happen in the next book? (We're all dying to know!)

It’s a very exciting book. Parts of it still give me goose bumps. Marcus and Kyja go in search of the Land Elementals, but it is not at all what they expect. In fact, one of the things they learn is that technically there is no such thing as a Land Elemental. We will also meet a character that I don’t think anyone expects. It’s really been a blast to write.

9) Do you have any plans to stray away from the YA genre and dabble in adult fiction?
I’ve actually written a couple of mysteries and a high tech thriller as Jeffrey S Savage. I will definitely continue that. But I think that YA fantasy has become home for me.

10) Now we're all curious, would you rather never write again or never read again?

What I couldn’t just give up singing or playing the piano? (Neither of which I do.) That’s a tough, tough question. They are both such a big part of my life. I guess I’d have to give up reading, although it would kill me. But I don’t know if I could stand reading other people’s books knowing I couldn’t write my own.

Great answer!!

Thanks to J. Scott Savage for giving us this opprotunity to conduct this interview!

Update

Just a quick note to let you know we aren't dead...and why we haven't reviewed anything new for a while.

We're out of town and it's hard to get access to the computer for a time long enough to write a review.

Still, hopefully I get the QOB3 review up soon and we'll resume our normal schedule when we get back home...aka August 23.

But until then, things will be a bit slower.

Thanks!

Death's Shadow by Darren Shan

It seems that whenever I get these books, I always have something more important to do. So I always think, hey, I'll just read a chapter and then get back to work. But, it's never worked in the past and once again, with this book, I failed. Within the first chapter, Darren Shan had hooked my attention and I desperately wanted to know what was going to happen. And, oh, this book was good. It's definitely my favourite in the series.

Despite the warnings on all the covers (seriously scary), the Demonata books haven't scared me. They've entertained me, excited me and (occasionally) grossed me out but every book has failed to scare me. Until now. At times I found myself pausing and staring at the page I read in complete shock and horror as to what had just happened.

The novel reminded me a little of Harry Potter 6. You know, the moment when you realize the true danger Harry's in and the looming threat is no longer just looming but there. In this book, it's the same. Everything here is enhanced, so to speak. The demons are more gruesome, the tension more pronounced, the stakes higher. Also, having Bec as the narrator made the novel seem more serious and the situation more dangerous as she truly knows the danger they're in.

And, finally, all the plot threads are coming together. Darren Shan has a huge, complex plot going on in the series and I think he's pulling it off. Fans of the previous book will not be disappointed in this novel. I know I wasn't.
